Our Collection

We have the largest and most comprehensive collection of material relating to the history of Glen Eira. Our collection is a valuable resource for those researching the history of their house and suburb, for family historians, students and other researchers.

Please help build our collection by donating items and objects relating to the local area.

We collect house, family, school and sporting photographs, club memorabilia, letters, diaries, family histories, school related items, ephemera such as invitations and advertising flyers and much more.

 

Victorian Collections

Maps

Our collection of approximately 100 maps dates from 1853 and includes MMBW, Department of Public Lands and Sands and McDougall maps, covering Glen Eira and surrounding areas.

Newspapers

Our collection consists of local newspapers dating from 1920 Caulfield News to recent editions of the Caulfield Glen Eira Leader. A full list of newspapers is available below.

Books

We hold a collection of local history books covering most Victorian towns, some biographies and other histories. These books were collected by Jack Paice who worked for the Post Master General’s Department until the 1980s.  We also hold histories of local schools, sporting groups, places of worship and more.

Artefacts

Our collection includes Mayoral Robes, WWI Avenue of Honour plaques, sporting trophies and old bottles dug up in Caulfield Park.

Oral Histories

We hold recordings from 1976 to the present.
