We recently received photos of two Edwardian houses that used to stand at 237 and 239 Balaclava Rd Caulfield North. They must have been demolished in the 1970s-80s as the site is now a block of units, next to St Aloysius. The donor says – “In 1972 I was one of the tenants at 237 Balaclava Rd, Nth Caulfield (most of the tenants were tutors or lecturers from Monash University, although one was a violinist with the VSO). Numbers 237 and 239 were owned by the same family, there was a resident caretaker known as ‘old Tom’ who lived in a cottage behind No 239.”
